Workers at Sellafield to take industrial action in pay dispute

Members of construction union UCATT employed at a company based at Sellafield in Cumbria are to undertake industrial action in a dispute over pay.

The 43 workers are employed by Amec Foster Wheeler Nuclear they will begin a ban on weekend working from the 21st March 2015. The dispute has arisen after supervisors at the company were awarded a £1.75 an hour pay increase, while the rest of the workforce were subjected to a pay freeze.

The vote in favour of industrial action was overwhelming with a 92% yes vote on a turnout of 88%.

Denis Doody, Regional Secretary for UCATT Northern Region, said: “Workers do not take industrial action lightly but the company is clearly acting unfairly.”

Mr Doody added: “UCATT is urging Amec to come back to the negotiating table, make an acceptable offer and avert this industrial action”
