Fresh protest in Liverpool over SITA undercutting dispute

Members of construction union UCATT will tomorrow (Friday November 20th) be taking part in the latest protest concerning the undercutting of wages and terms and conditions at the SITA site on Teesside.

SITA are building the site on behalf of the Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority (MRWA). The MRWA has failed to act after unions produced evidence that the terms and conditions of workers on the site are being undercut and are far below those set out in national agreements.

Denis Doody, Regional Secretary for UCATT’s Northern Region, said: “Our concerns about the undercutting of rates and the exploitation of workers on the SITA site have been ignored. Members of the Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority must insist on national agreements being honoured and demand that workers are not further victimised by being forced to operate via umbrella companies.”
