UCATT wins pay rise at Dungannon Council

Three civic amenity site attendants working for Dungannon Council will see their pay rise by £3,000 a year after UCATT lodged an appeal against their job evaluation score. With the help of union representation, they moved from Grade 2 to Grade 4.

UCATT Union Learning Fund (ULF) Northern Ireland Project well underway

UCATT’s £100,000 Union Learning Fund (ULF) Northern Ireland (NI) project Building Sustainable Learning is well underway. It aims to attract “non-traditional” learners into accredited learning by breaking down the barriers they face in accessing training opportunities. To help to achieve this, it is continuing to build and develop the learning networks and partnerships established through previous successful ULF projects.  Project leader is Ciaran Brolly and he is assisted in his role by roving union learning representative (ULR) Pat Archer.

The Project works strategically with the sector skills council, CITB NI, and UCATT has developed a wide network of partners including employers and training providers. For example, it is currently working with the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) to deliver an NVQ Level 3 in Heritage Skills, where UCATT NIEA convenor Darren Sharratt is setting up a Learning Committee.

“UCATT has always supported access to education and training," said UCATT ULF NI project leader Ciaran Brolly. “Our aim is to open up learning opportunities for all workers in the wider construction sector, whether this is to help people access higher learning for the first time, or to support members with their continuing education and professional development.”

An important part of the project is working with community-based organisations to identify employment gaps and offer training to those seeking employment or wanting to upskill.
