Construction sites across Britain could come to a standstill if crane drivers at a major company vote for strike action.

UCATT are encouraging members to take part in the People’s March for the NHS.

The march begins on Saturday 16th August in Jarrow and will follow the same route as the 1936 Jarrow Crusade.

UCATT conference demands Crossrail safety improvement

Construction union UCATT have put further pressure on Crossrail to improve safety on the project.

Delegates at UCATT’s conference in Llandudno today (May 14) voted unanimously in favour of an emergency motion which demanded that UCATT safety reps are elected on all sections of the project and that safety committees are also created.

UCATT demands change of culture following leaked Crossrail safety report

Construction union UCATT are stepping up pressure to improve safety with Crossrail and their contractor (Balfour Beatty Morgan Vinci) BBMV following the leaking of a report into safety on Crossrail.

Although the report was originally compiled in March 2013 UCATT members and representatives have reported that there has been no visible improvement in safety and morale on the project.

UCATT Calls For Urgent Action and Answers Following Leaked Crossrail Safety Report

Construction union UCATT are calling for both Crossrail and its main contractors to undertake urgent action after a leaked safety report revealed a “culture of spying and fear” and that workers were “afraid to report [accidents] due to the likelihood of being laid off”.

UCATT event in London to mark Workers Memorial Day

Construction union UCATT is organising an event in London to mark this year’s International Workers Memorial Day on Monday 28th April.

The event will take the form of a ceremony including wreath laying at the Building Workers Statue next to the Tower of London. The keynote speaker will be Steve Murphy, General Secretary of UCATT.
