What's going on in the region?

UCATT’s Executive Council has appointed a new Regional Secretary for Scotland. Steve Dillon took over the reins at the beginning of July following the retirement of Harry Frew, who has been Scottish Regional Secretary since 2004 and was president of the STUC in 2013/14.

Steve joined the union at 18 when he became an apprentice painter and decorator for Monklands District Council. His father was a joiner and union member. He’s one of nine kids, six girls and three boys (he’s the middle one). All are union members. He’s been a UCATT official for seven and a half years. He said: “UCATT needs to look to the future. I will be looking to both empower and involve people. I want to give people a sense of ownership in the workplace.”
